In Cinemas This Weekend: Tom Cruise is Jack Reacher

I'm a bit behind this week on delivering you the new releases of the week. All the booze and turkey is making me lose track of the days. The films I am bringing to you then were actually released on Boxing Day and have been showing for a few days already. Well you do have a good week to see these films and if you have plenty of time in-between Christmas and the New Year then there are some decent ones for you to go and see.  None of them are particularly Christmassy but there is the usual Tom Cruise action flick that seems to be released at this time of year, and another is a family comedy that may remind you of some of the antics taking place within your family during this Holiday time. Anyway take a look at the few films out now that may keep you preoccupied whilst you take a well earned break. Merry Christmas.


1. Tom Cruise is JACK REACHER in the film adaptation of Lee Child's book One Shot. Reacher is former military turned homicide detective who is called on to a case involving five shootings carried out by a trained sniper. When the police make an arrest Reacher argues that he has been framed and sets out to track down the real killer which brings him to uncover an even bigger conspiracy. Also starring: Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, & David Oyelowo. Have you done something wrong?

2. Billy Crystal and Bette Midler play the parents of Marisa Tomei who needs a babysitter when she and her husband are called away in PARENTAL GUIDANCE. Call in the Grandparents who struggle to deal with the children's 21st Century antics and refuse to be disciplined by old-school methods. Expect a visual comedic film pitting an ageing Crystal against some feisty children. Also starring: Tom Everett Scott. Who will win the war?

3. Finally is SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED which follows three magazine employees whose latest assignment is to interview a guy who has placed an advertisement looking for a companion for a time travel expedition. With the trio refusing to accept this time traveller's expedition as real they begin to question their own issues in life and try to right some of their wrongs which means this time traveller may come in handy. Starring: Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass, Jake Johnson, & Lauren Carlos. Want to travel through time?

So there are your Holiday films to pick from. They all seem particularly mindless as no one wants to have to think too hard when they are full of Christmas goodies. You have action, comedy, and absurdity and I think whichever of these films you see you will quite enjoy it. Have a good New Year.



  

In Cinemas This Weekend: An unbelievable life story of man and animal

So we are at the last weekend before Christmas and two new films are being released for you to cram in before the day arrives. Neither of the films are Christmassy but you have one filmed on a large colourful scale and one a comedy based in the world of singing, and no they're not Christmas Carollers. Both of these films in a way could be inspiring which is exactly what you need on the build up to the festive season, if a boy's lonely journey in the wilderness or a freshman at college unveiling herself as a top singer doesn't make you feel good then your family may be in for a miserable Christmas. Anyway with that stress of Christmas nearly ready to leave you get yourself down to the movie theatre and start your festive break. Your new releases are below:

1. Revel in the remarkable story of a young boy who survives an incredible journey in LIFE OF PI. Whilst transporting their zoo across continents, a family strike disaster when their boat sinks with only their son, Pi , and a Bengal tiger being the only two survivors. Cast away the man and animal strike an unexpected connection that could ultimately keep Pi alive instead of being prey to the carnivorous animal. Beautiful cinematography means this is one to be seen on the big screen. Starring: Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Adil Hussain, & Ayush Tandon. Is inspiration what you need this Christmas?

2. The other release is PITCH PERFECT, the story of a freshman at Barden University whose singing abilities cause her to be recruited by an all-girls singing group called The Bellas. With their new recruit bringing them much needed energy, The Bellas go head to head with their all-male rivals in a University Competition. Think Bridesmaids crossed with Step Up. Starring: Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson, & Skylar Astin. Can the girls beat the boys?

Doesn't seem like much for a Christmas release but they are two films that will attract a vast range of audience members, meaning a cinema isn't going to need to show much else. With The Hobbit in cinemas and Twilight and Skyfall still going strong the cinema is going to be filled with many films that many want to see. With Christmas round the corner then I will say Happy Holidays. I will be trying to continue my updates over the next week but I can't guarantee the extra stone I'm about to put on won't weigh me down. Have a good one.



 

In Cinemas This Weekend: The Baggins' family prequel

I'm sure most people will be aware of the film being released in cinemas this weekend. It has come with a lot of promises and expectation, especially since it is the prequel to one of cinemas biggest ever trilogies. Director Peter Jackson has also released the film in many different formats; 2D, 3D, 24 frames per second, and 48 frames per second, and by all accounts it feels very different depending on which version you see. Also he has made this singular book into a trilogy, emulating his previous work on the first trilogy which was actually three books. The question though is can he emulate the success? I'm sure you know what the film is so take a look below to confirm. Also there is a cartoon flick for the children on the build up to Christmas.


1. Peter Jackson takes us back to the World of the Baggins family in THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. The first of a trilogy based on the J.R.R. Tolkien book, and prequel to the Lord Of The Rings, this film follows Bilbo Baggins as he teams with a group of dwarves travelling to Lonely Mountain to reclaim treasure stolen by evil dragon, Smaug. Be prepared for a long film that will set up the rest of the trilogy. Starring: Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, & Ken Stott. How did he become barer of that ring?

2. The other film released this week is TINKERBELL AND THE SECRET OF THE WINGS, a nice little tale for the children. The story centres on Tinkerbell and another fairy called Periwinkle who enter the winter woods to find the secret behind fairy wings. Starring: Timothy Dalton, Lucy Hale, Megan Hilty, & Anjelica Huston. Want to enter the world of magic?

Only the two releases then which seems quite sensible considering The Hobbit will probably make a lot of sales. As someone who wasn't particularly a fan of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy (I'll be ridiculed now won't I?) I can't say I am overly excited about The Hobbit. I think if you are a fan of the films it will be your film of the year but if you're not it may be best to wait for DVD so you can pause it when you fancy a break. Either way it will be the big release for the week but at least there is a nice calmer film if you are just looking for something to pass the time. The Tinkerbell film could actually be watched twice before The Hobbit would be finished once, now there's a fact that might sway your decision, especially if you're taking the kids. Enjoy whatever you see this weekend.


 

In Cinemas This Weekend - Dogknapping is a mad man's game.

Four new films will be hitting cinemas this weekend and one of them is a return from the makers of the brilliant In Bruges. That can only be a good thing right. As well as that there is some Kill Bill style fighting, a Miley Cyrus comedy, and another comedy from Brit director Julian Farino. Not quite as much choice for this week then but I suppose cinemas are clearing the way for next week's mega release. I won't state what that is just yet (although I'm sure you already know) and instead I will show you what is to be enjoyed this weekend. Take a look below.

1. From the team behind In Bruges comes SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS. Colin Farrell stars again but this time as a screenwriter who accidentally becomes involved in his odd friend's business venture; kidnapping dogs. The venture seems to work until they kidnap a gangster's beloved Shih Tzu who will do all he can to get it back. Not even a screenwriter could write his way out of this one! Also starring: Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, & Michael Pitt. How crazy can it be?

2. RZA directs Russell Crowe in this Tarantino-esque film THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS. The film follow a group of warriors and assassins on the hunt for hidden treasure but when they stumble across a small village in China they meet a humble blacksmith who is desperate to protect his village and stages a war against the group. Also starring: Chung Le, Lucy Liu, & RZA. How much will it hurt?

3. A kiddie's version of 21 Jump Street starring Miley Cyrus called SO UNDERCOVER also hits screens. Cyrus plays a private eye hired by the FBI to go undercover within a college sorority. Due to her leaving school at a young age and spying on cheating husbands, this is the one place she feels out of her comfort zone. Also starring: Alexis Knapp, Joshua Bowman, & Jeremy Piven. Will she remain undercover?

4. Lastly is THE ORANGES, a comedy directed by Julian Farino starring Hugh Laurie as the father of the Walling family. They hold a strong friendship with the Ostroff family but when the Ostroff daughter returns home for the holidays she begins an affair with Mr Walling that tests the families close relationship. Also starring: Leighton Meester, Catherine Keener, & Adam Brody. How would you react?

So they are your choices for this week then. Granted there isn't quite as much to choose from but I strongly advise heading to the cinema this weekend to watch one of these if they take your fancy. Next week will be dictated by this major film release and smaller film such as these may not get a look in. I haven't really heard much about these films, Seven Psychopaths having been the only one really marketed well, so I haven't got much to say on their potential. If In Bruges is anything to go by however I would possibly suggest Seven Psychopaths is the one to see.

In Cinemas This Weekend: Fairy tale guardians - assemble!

There are many, many films being released into cinemas this weekend. So many that even Bond and Twilight are losing screening times and are being shown like any other film. There are 8 films just being released this weekend and that is on top of some pretty great films already being shown. Plenty to pick from then so there should definitely be something you are willing to watch. As usual there are a couple of foreign films that will only be released in Independent Cinemas but if they suit your fancy I'm sure they will be easy to find. Take a look below at the long list of movies coming to you today.


1. A child-like, animated Avengers from DreamWorks comes first in RISE OF THE GUARDIANS. Santa Claus must round up his fellow guardians; the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost, and Sand Man to help him do battle against an evil spirit let loose on Earth. With the Guardians being the protectors of all children, they must stop this evil before it ruins their imaginations forever. Starring: Hugh Jackman, Alec Baldwin, Isla Fisher, & Chris Pine. Can they protect the kids?

2. James Patterson novel are famous for one of his greatest characters, and despite once being played by Morgan Freeman, is getting a reboot. ALEX CROSS will now be played by Tyler Perry who must do all he can to stop a skilled serial killer who deals in torture. Cross finds himself more involved in this one case when he learns that a family member who was murdered had connections to this killer, and Cross has vowed revenge. Also starring: Matthew Fox, Rachel Nichols, & Giancarlo Esposito. Would you cross Alex Cross?

3. Clint Eastwood is back on the screen for the first time in four years in TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE. He plays a baseball talent scout who is past his best as his eye sight is shot and he has trouble following the ball. With his reluctance to retire keeping him going his daughter quits her job to go on a scouting trip with him in the hope she can help him make the correct judgement call. Also starring: Amy Adams, John Goodman, & Chelcie Ross. Can they make the correct call?

4. Next we have another take on the classic tale GREAT EXPECTATIONS but this time it is directed by Mike Newell. The story is still the same only with a more up to date cast. This version stars Ralph Fiennes as an unknown benefactor to an orphan who helps him in time of need. Watching from the shadows he then sees this young boy grow into the perfect gentleman with the aid of his riches. Also starring: Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, & Jason Flemyng. Will he live up to expectations?

5. A lonely teacher is at the heart of THE HUNT. After fighting for custody of his son, to which he loses, this teacher's life takes time to get back to normal. When he finds love it all starts to change but it is all too good to be true and an innocent white lie about to resurface is on the brink of shattering his new found happiness. Starring: Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Annika Wedderkopp, & Lasse Fogelstrom. Could a lie shatter you?

6. YOU ARE HOME is a Turkish romantic drama that begins after a painful separation. We then follow a broken-hearted girl who returns to her parents to recover. Her authoritarian Father has never forgiven her for leaving with the man who broke her heart and she faces more struggle in reconnecting with her suffering family, especially when she meets another man who her Father doesn't approve of. Starring: Ozcan Deniz, Gizem Denizci, Fahriye Evcen, & Ozay Fecht. Is home really the safest place?

7. Polish comedy drama MY FATHER'S BIKE follows the story of three generations of family who take a road trip across Poland when they receive some tough news. For the first time in years the family begin to connect and it has all come with a price meaning, they are unsure whether to be happy or sad. Starring: Michal Urbaniak, Artur Zmijewski, Krzysztof Chodorowski, & Witold Debicki. Can tragedy be a blessing?

8. Finally comes the next feature film from Brit director Ben Wheatley. SIGHTSEERS is the tale of a couple venturing on a caravanning holiday during the summer. However things take a sinister turn for the worst and the couple, due to high tension and pressures, find themselves on a killing spree across the scenic countryside. Starring: Alice Lowe, Steve Oram, Eileen Davies, & Richard Glover. What flips your switches?

We are at the end then, finally. This has to be the most films released in one week for a long while. I've done some research into local cinemas and 5 of these 8 will be shown in mainstream cinemas, with The Hunt, You Are Home, and My Father's Bike being found in the smaller theatres within your town. Lots to choose from, lots to enjoy and lots of catching up to do as you won't see even half of these in one weekend. See you next week.

In Cinemas This Weekend: There's always a silver lining no matter how messed up things seem.

Happy Friday everybody. It's that time of the week again where new films come rocking into your local cinema. I'm quite excited about the films this week as we now have a few to choose from. Over the last month we've had some pretty big releases that have flooded the cinemas but now we are hopefully going to be getting back to having a wide range of films to choose from. This week we have 5 brand new films released and all of them look rather splendid.


1. First up sees Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence star as two individuals suffering from mental illness in SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK. The pair grow close through their issues, and use it as a way to connect and help them through the difficult times in their lives. Also starring: Robert De Niro & Jacki Weaver. Will they find their silver lining?

2. Colin Firth takes on a different kind of role in GAMBIT. Fed up of his unpleasant boss, an art curator (Firth) attempts to seek revenge by conning him into buying a fake famous painting, but in order for his plan to work he requires the help of Cameron Diaz's eccentric cow girl. Also starring: Alan Rickman & Stanley Tucci. Will the crazy scheming work?

3. The writer of Training Day writes and directs new police drama END OF WATCH. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena as two traffic cops wanted by a notorious drug cartel after they confiscate a stash of money and weapons during a routine spot check. Told in a documentary/handheld camera style to really pull you into the action. Also starring: Anna Kendrick & Natalie Martinez. Can they escape the murderers who want them dead?

4. In preparation for Christmas David Tennant stars in NATIVITY 2 playing a new teacher lead on a school field trip which is taking the children to the National 'Song For Christmas' Competition. Taking his pregnant wife along with him the group find themselves trekking through fields and experiencing episodes not too dissimilar from the story behind Christmas. Also starring: Jason Watkins, Thomas Ainge, & Adrianna Bertola. Can they go all that way and leave with nothing?

5. Finally is little known film STARBUCK. Starbuck is one man's code name when he used to donate sperm twenty years ago, however when his new lover falls pregnant his name resurfaces and 142 of the 533 children he created in the past are all desperate to meet their biological father. Starring: Patrick Huard, Julie LeBreton, Antoine Bertrand, & Dominic Philie. Can you imagine having 533 illegitimate children?

5 films then, 1 movie to choose, which one will you go for? Of course you can see more than one if you please but what would be your top choice? Hopefully the above will give you some idea into what you could be seeing with all being intriguing in their own way. After Twilight weekend last week I am pleased to announce I am excited to go back to the cinema again.

In Cinemas This Weekend: The saga is brought to an end.

This week sees one of the biggest films of the year released. Now before I go into too much detail with that let me add that the film is the biggest not because it will be particularly award worthy, not because it will be one of the best of the year, and not because everyone loves it. No the reason it will be so big is that this film's fan base (ladies you know who you are) will swamp cinemas for the next few weeks to witness two 'heart throbs' removing their shirts. Now for me this just doesn't cut it as a big film but in terms of money I can understand why the producers would do it. The film is bound to bag loads of cash for the companies who made it regardless of if it is any good so that is why it is seen as one of the biggest films of the year, unfortunately. Due to this then nothing much else is to be released but there are 2 that may interest you. Have a look at them below.


1. Ok so for those of you who aren't aware, that big film I mentioned is THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN - PART 2. Back, and now as a vampire, is Bella who has become the number one enemy of the Volturi when they hear her baby is mortal. Werewolves and vampires join forces to protect the girl who has been the centre of a love triangle since the beginning. It all boils down to one epic conclusion. Starring: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, & Peter Facinelli. Can they protect their offspring?

2. As well as Twilight we are given a sweet foreign film brought to us Michael Haneke, director of Funny Games. AMOUR is the story of an elderly couple, both of whom were music teachers, whose relationship becomes strained when one of them falls severely ill. Starring: Jean-Louis Trintignant, Emmanuelle Riva, Isabelle Huppert, & Alexandre Tharaud. Can their love last?

3. Finally we have MENTAL a film evolving around a suffering relationship due to the husband's political ambitions. With the couple struggling to be there for their children they hire a nanny who transforms the families' ways with her crazy personality. Starring: Liev Schreiber, Toni Collette, Caroline Goodall, & Anthony LaPaglia. How crazy can it get?

That is that for this weekend then. Expect your local cinema to be absolutely rammed with Twilight fans because theatres are designated for them this weekend. Causes pain for many of you I know but hey they've got to make their money somehow. It leaves not much for the other cinemagoers though so I suggest the brilliant Argo or Skyfall to fill your time. If you're planning on seeing a smaller film please ring in advance as last year they were cancelling films to show more Twilight. Just gives us another reason to dislike it. Anyway enjoy whatever you see even if you succumb to peer pressure and join the girlfriend in viewing vampire love.

In Cinemas This Weekend: The best bad idea ever!

Welcome back it is another Friday morning and I am preparing myself for what lies ahead in the cinemas for me. I am a little excited this weekend as one of my favourite directors, Ben Affleck, has a film hitting screens today. As well as his film we have another Kevin James comedy and Chris Pine pops up in his second film of the year. A few to pick from this week and unlike last week there are actually a few that I would be up for seeing. Take a look below at what films are hitting screens and see which one takes your liking.


1. Ben Affleck has made a name for himself over the last few years due to providing some excellent direction in some excellent films. As well as that he has also been starring in them and performing pretty well. This week sees his third directorial film ARGO which is the title of a fake movie Ben's CIA agent has concocted so he and his team can enter Iran and extract six American diplomats held captive. Also starring: Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, & Alan Arkin. Will the fake movie be a hit?

2. Kevin James returns, after lending his voice to Hotel Transylvania, in HERE COMES THE BOOM. James plays a teacher who takes up cage fighting in order to raise enough money to save his school from being closed down. Problem is he's a teacher and what does he know about mixed martial arts? Also starring: Salma Hayek, Henry Winkler, & Greg Germann. Will he see it before it hits him?

3. Next up is family drama PEOPLE LIKE US. The film stars Chris Pine as a man who learns he has a sister whilst settling his recently deceased Father's estate. He tracks across country to find her but when they connect he struggles to tell her he is her long lost brother. Also starring: Elizabeth Banks, Michelle Pfeiffer, & Michael Hall D'Addario. Can they reignite a dying family?

4. American Pie star Jason Biggs plays an oddball friend in GRASSROOTS. When his best friend loses his job as a journalist Biggs does all he can to help him earn a seat on the Seattle City Council, unfortunately Bigg's odd ways only lead to disaster. Also starring: Joel David Moore, Lauren Ambrose, & Cobie Smulders. Is friendship more than a job?

5. Two British Arabs must fight to be part of a community in MY BROTHER THE DEVIL. Rashid and Mo struggle to face their prejudices whilst living on the streets plagued by gangland violence in the centre of London. 6. Last and certainly not least is THE SAPPHIRES, a new comedy drama starring Chris O'Dowd as the manager for four talented Australian Aboriginal young girls who are part of the girl group The Sapphires. The girls are sent to Vietnam to perform for the US troops during the war where they learn about the travesty they have become a part of by entering the country. Also starring: Deborah Mailman, Jessica Mauboy, & Shari Sebbens. Can they sing their troubles away?

In Cinemas This Weekend: Don't take your younger brother trick or treating!

Quite a few films hit cinemas this weekend, well compared to previous weeks anyway, although I have to say that none of these films seem overly appealing and the couple that are aren't playing in my local theatre. This sucks. As a matter of fact I have noticed that Skyfall is still dominating the screenings so new films out this week, even a Paul Thomas Anderson or Marion Cotillard film, won't be knocking it off its stride. The new Bond is a great film so I can understand why cinemas keep it going but for those who have seen it it could be a dull weekend at the movies for you. Have a look at what is out below.


1. Tying in with Halloween is FUN SIZE although this isn't a horror but a comedy. A teenage girl's Halloween plans are ruined when she is made to take her younger brother trick or treating when her Mother is called away, however in the midst of dressed up kids she loses him and gathers help from her best friends to find the sibling before her mother returns. Starring: Victoria Justice, Chelsea Handler, Jackson Nicoll, & Josh Pence. What could be scarier on Halloween?

2. Sex lines are the theme of next movie FOR A GOOD TIME, CALL.... When two former college enemies move in together to save on rent they start up a sex line service in order to earn more money to live in their glamorous apartment. Starring: Ari Graynor, Lauren Miller, Justin Long, & James Wolk. You looking for a good time?

3. The Paul Thomas Anderson film I mentioned above is THE MASTER starring Philip Seymour Hoffman as a cult leader who invites war veteran Joaquin Phoenix to join when he realises he is missing the stability of war. Also starring: Amy Adams & Price Carson. Could you be tempted to join?

4. Marion Cotillard graces the screen again in emotional drama RUST AND BONE. The film follows two characters from different stories that are thrust together after an incident with a killer whale leaves one of them disabled. Also starring: Matthias Schoenaerts, Armand Verdure, & Celine Masiero. Can something horrific spark someone's life?

5. The gothic horrors of Silent Hill return in SILENT HILL: REVELATION. When her Father goes missing a young woman is drawn to a strange town which runs in an alternate reality. Once there she realises she has entered the place she has had nightmares about since she was a child. Starring: Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Sean Bean, & Carrie-Anne Moss. 6. As well as Rust And Bone another foreign film will be released in selected cinemas this weekend. DINNER WITH MY SISTERS is the story of a Greek Cypriot doctor who returns to his homeland to investigate the death of his Father. Starring: Popi Avraam, Donna Berlin, Nadia Charalambous, & Christopher Greco. What will he uncover?

7. Finally we have a small independent film which may get a few showings at the smaller theatres near you. KEEP THE LIGHTS ON follows a filmmaker who bonds with a lawyer who refuses to admit he is homosexual. As their relationship grows to something more they both face internal struggles where one finds their situation normal and one finds it an embarrassment. Starring: Thure Lindhardt, Zachary Booth, Julianne Nicholson, & Marilyn Neimark. Will he come out the closet?

So there we have it the films released this week. It is odd to see a list of so many but none that particularly jump out at you. The two I want to see seem to be unavailable so at this moment in time I have no idea what I will be seeing. In Cinemas This Weekend: Bond, James Bond.

Just the one major film to be released this weekend then and I have to say I'm not surprised other films aren't being released this weekend as I have a feeling this film is going to be huge. By all accounts in some cinemas the entire weekend's showings are already fully booked, now that says something. I'm sure all of you will know what the film is, with my heading above and the constant marketing being plastered about, but have a look below for a short synopsis and the trailer.


1. Bond 23 is finally being released. SKYFALL had many problems during production but it is now finally here, once again with Daniel Craig as James Bond. In this outing M comes under scrutiny after losing a hard drive containing a list of MI6 agents causing Bond to erase the threat against them before they announce this information worldwide. Also starring: Helen McCrory, Javier Bardem, & Berenice Marlohe. Could this be Bond's toughest mission?

So just the one mega film out this week then and I'm sure I will be batting you all off to get in the cinema to see it. From the trailer it looks fantastic and as if this time Bond may have met his match. Enjoy this weekend.



 

In Cinemas This Weekend: A Frankenstein like mutt.

Four films are released this weekend but there isn't much of a range to choose from. If you don't like children's films or horror films then you are out of luck as really that is all we have on show for you this weekend. Like I said last week, we seem to be having a lot of children's films being released at the moment. I suppose they are about 'monsters' but with Halloween on the approach I much expected some frightening horrors to be bursting into cinemas. We do have one horror film out this weekend but that franchise is slowly turning into a fans only zone. A bit like the Saw movies did in the end. I'm sure you will find something among the releases but this week is once again a poor one. Probably be a kid's film for me this weekend then.



1. The first release of the week is Tim Burton's animated movie FRANKENWEENIE. The story of a young boy, named Victor, who has the idea of bringing his favourite dog Sparky back to life using the power of electricity. After he does however things aren't as joyful as they used to be. Starring: Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, & Martin Landau. Is he alive?

2. A horror franchise releases yet another instalment in PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4. A bit of a no-brainer really knowing the success of the others. Same formula takes place here, a handheld camera recording the moves of the occupants of a house when spooky goings on begin to take place. Starring: Katie Featherston, Kathryn Newton, Matt Shively, & Brady Allen. Will the truth come out this time?

3. Four cheeky animals are back in MADAGASCAR 3: EUROPE'S MOST WANTED. The lion, hippo, giraffe, and zebra all return as they continue their journey back home, only this time find themselves stuck in Europe. Starring: Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett Smith, Chris Rock, & David Schwimmer. Will they ever make it back?

4. A young girl searches for her lost mother in BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD. When her Father attracts a mysterious illness their homeland is threatened by rising creatures and melting ice caps, meaning this young girl must find her lost mother in order for her to survive. Starring: Quvenzhane Wallis, Dwight Henry, Levy Easterly, & Lowell Landes. Will she learn the ways of courage and love?

That is that then. Four films for you to pick from for this week's cinema trip. It is a tough one to pick a winner and I may find myself watching a kid's flick. Not that I mind but it's the odd looks I get when I'm in there! Hopefully that won't happen this week and most of the parents have abandoned their children to go see Paranormal Activity 4 instead.

In Cinemas This Weekend: Ghouls, goblins, and monsters all in one hotel.

Over the next few weeks there seems to be very little to be released at the box office. Nothing here really leaps to me and draws me to see it, this is the same for next week to, and a few of the films are made entirely for children. Of course that doesn't mean adults can't see them too but I find it odd that over the space of 2 weeks 30% of the films are for kids. There are also a couple of films that could turn out to be little charms hiding away but there isn't much that the average movie goer would of heard of via trailers in the theatre or marketing around their town centre. However sometimes these sorts of films are the ones that end up being the best ones, who would have thought Warrior would have been my favourite film of last year! If you're looking for a hidden gem this week then take a look at your releases below.


1. Dracula, Frankenstein, and Quasimodo, among others, need a break from the norm every once in a while and they don't want to be pestered by people who judge them instantaneously, so where better for them to go then the HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA where all monsters can go as a community. That is until a young man stumbles across the hotel whilst travelling through the mountains. An animated tale with scary proportions. Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Andy Samberg, & Selena Gomez. Want to see things that go bump in the night?

2. In PUSHER we see Frank, a local drug dealer well known within his gangster community in London, however his life is soon sent spiralling out of control as over the course of one week he is pushed to test his inner most limits. Starring: Richard Coyle, Bronson Webb, Agness Deyn, & Mem Ferda. How far can he be pushed?

3. Book adaptation ON THE ROAD sees Sam Riley's young writer, Sal Paradise's life altered by the arrival of a free spirited couple whilst he travels across country in search of inspiration for his next writing piece. Also starring: Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, & Amy Adams. How will he fare on the road?

4. Dax Shepard plays a man in witness protection in HIT AND RUN but comes out of hiding in order to transport his girlfriend across the country to LA. With this man now resurfacing the feds and his former gang members, led by Bradley Cooper, chase them across country, one to protect and one to kill. Also starring: Kristen Bell & Tom Arnold. Will it all be worth it?

5. Ever wandered if you could create your own girlfriend? Well in RUBY SPARKS young writer Paul Dano manages to create one whilst suffering writer's block, however he isn't entirely sure if she is real or in his head causing him to write absurd stories to see if his new character is led by them. Also starring: Zoe Kazan, Annette Bening, & Chris Messina. Is this the way to find love?

There you have your 5 films for the week then. None of them in particular jump out at me and if it wasn't for the internet I would have only seen the trailer for Ruby Sparks. Although without the internet I wouldn't be able to give you this lovely blog!! Maybe over the next few weeks cinemas are playing it cool in preparation for Skyfall at the end of October. Let's hope so as I hate it when I can't get excited about heading to the cinema.
