TOP FILMS OF 2012

So with the year finally out then (oh Happy New Year to you all) I thought I would bring you a small feature giving you my top films of 2012 followed with my least favourite films of 2012. If you are a regular to my blog you will see I've been reviewing a new film every week and rating them out of ten and judging which ones have been my favourite for the year. As 2012 has been and gone the top list of films of 2012 for me, has been locked in and my top 10 has been confirmed so below is my list with a little blurb of each film. 1. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES     10 / 10


Starring: Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway

Directed By: Christopher Nolan

The Batman returns for his final outing in Christopher Nolan's finale to the Dark Knight trilogy. Eight years since Batman took the fall for the White Knight Harvey Dent, Bruce Wayne has isolated himself from the City that now hates the Batman. When a mysterious cat burglar breaks into his Manor however Bruce links her to bulky terrorist Bane who is hellbent on destroying Gotham meaning Batman will have to return.

A fantastic end to a brilliant trilogy that has a bit of everything to wrap up the entire narrative. This may be the weakest of the trilogy but for an ending it is perfect and for that reason is our number 1 of the year.

2. ARGO     9 / 10


Starring: Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman

Directed By: Ben Affleck

The true story of Tony Menez, a CIA extraction expert who is sent into a hostile revolutionary Iran to rescue six US Diplomats. His idea; to pose as a film crew and bring them out via the airport which is guarded by Iranian rebels in search of the hiding Diplomats.

This is a tense film filled with elements of comedy but is also a film that had us on the edge of our seats for the final half hour at least. Some great performances and great direction from Affleck makes this our 2nd favourite of the year but only narrowly missing out on the number 1 spot due to the scale of The Dark Knight Rises. This is a film not to miss.

3. SKYFALL     8.5 / 10


Starring: Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris

Directed By: Sam Mendes

The latest installment of James Bond sees him survive death right at the start and begin to realise he isn't as invincible as he first thought. With Bond out the way a new threat looms over MI6 but not with the organisation itself but with one member of the team; M. A former agent with a baring grudge plans revenge on his former boss but when Bond returns he does all he can to protect his Mother figure which leads him to relive a troubled backstory that until now the aundience never knew Bond had.

This is Bond back where he belongs. it doesn't feel like a Bond film as it is much more grounded than the usual smart quips he spouts out. This is the Bond between Bonds and is certainly the one that will be putting the franchise back onto a steady track.

4. SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK     8 / 10

Starring: Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro

Directed By: David O. Russell

A former teacher is released from a mental institution and begins to train up to get his wife back. When he finds out she has a restraining order against him he befriends a local widow who has mental issues of her own as he believes she can communicate to his wife for him, however she will only do it if he agrees to be her dance partner at an up and coming competition.

5. THE HUNGER GAMES     8 / 10

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth

Directed By: Gary Ross

In a futuristic world two candidates from different Districts must take part in a televised game devised by an evil President of the Capitol. The Hunger Games pits twelve children to the battle of the death with only one becomming the victor. When Katniss Everdeen's little sister is chosen at random to compete, Katniss volunteers to take her place and finds herself battling for her life in the arena.

6. SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN     8 / 10

Starring: Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron

Directed By: Rupert Sanders

A dark fantastical version of the well known fairy tale. A new Queen takes charge of the land and removes beauty and youth from younger women in order to keep herself perfect but when her magic mirror tells her Snow White will surpass her she orders a Huntsman to bring her Snow White's heart. Whilst fighting the dark forest the Huntsman comes across Snow White and instead of killing her takes her side and the two build an army to take down the Queen's evil reign.

7. AVENGERS ASSEMBLE     7.5 / 10



Starring: Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson

Directed By: Joss Whedon

When the World comes under threat from the evil God Loki, Super Spy Nick Fury constructs a team including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the Incredible Hulk to go to battle against the alien creatures Loki plans on unleashing against the World. The biggest problem for the team however is getting along with each other.

8. LOOPER     7.5 / 10

Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt

Directed By: Rian Johnson

In the future time travel has been invented and Levitt plays Joe, a Looper who is an assassin who kills people sent back in time to be erased from the future. The job is well paid and Looper's live the life of luxury however that soon changes when Joe's next target turns out to be the future version of himself. When the older Joe escapes the younger version must track him down and kill himself before the next thirty years of his life is taken away from him.

9. TED     7.5 / 10

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Seth MacFarlane

Directed By: Seth MacFarlane

When a lonely young boy makes a wish on Christmas Eve that his teddy bear would come to life he wakes up on Christmas Day with that dream having come true. Twenty odd years later and that young boy John, has grown up and the teddy bear is still around only now he is a pot smoking, foul mouthed, prostitute buying scumbag who John must stop hanging around with in order to grow up, however best friends are for life.

10. 21 JUMP STREET     7.5 / 10



Starring: Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube

Directed By: Phil Lord & Chris Miller

Two useless cops are sent to the forces worst undercover division after bodging their first arrest. The division they join is on Jump Street and their new mission is to go into a high school posing as students and find the suppliers and dealers of a new drug which has killed one of the students, however school has changed somewhat from when they were there and neither of them understand what the word 'cool' really means.

So that is my small review of the year. I highly recommend the films in my top ten as out of the 52 we have seen these are the ones that have stuck in the memory and we thoroughly enjoyed. The worst five I would avoid as best you can as they really are poor movies but with the top quality that floods the top ten it is safe to say that 2012 has been a good year for movies. Roll on 2013 that is already boasting some highly anticipated movies.

Sadly however this blog is coming to an end, my year long project has been completed but I am currently in the process of kick starting a website that will bring you all the movie news and reviews plus music news and previews that will excite movie and music fans alike. Check out this page in the next few days where I will give you the new address that we hope to get up and running as of next week. So fear not my fellow followers the reviews will continue but on a different site. Happy new year to you all.

NEWS - Ricky Gervais in talks to star in 'Muppets' sequel

With Christmas right around the corner I thought it would be good to bring to you some potentially light-hearted movie news. The news is basically that a top British comedian has been in talks to star in a World known comedy franchise movie, and today it has been confirmed that it is not simply talks and instead the comic will be starring in it. The news is of Ricky Gervais playing the lead in the sequel to 2012's The Muppets. Now the Muppets are a World known established unit and over the past decade Gervais has become the same, meaning this can only be a match made in heaven.

Most would have thought it would be merely for a cameo but reports suggest that it is in fact for the lead role. That unfortunately means Jason Segel will not be returning to the action. Nothing else has been reported on what Gervais' role entails but I presume it will be to do with him teaming with the Muppets as they travel across Europe, considering the movie has been described as a 'European-set caper. Gervais had filmed a cameo for the first movie which ended up being cut, perhaps it was such a good performance they didn't want it to be seen until they could base a whole movie on it. Who knows?

Despite setbacks in the shooting schedule due to Christoph Waltz dropping out from playing an Interpol Agent, the movie is set to shoot in the UK in January 2013. Now with a lead actor in place the wheels will begin to turn on this project.

NEWS - Martin Sheen confirmed for The Amazing Spider-man 2; First trailer for Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim

Many trailers have hit the web over the past week, all for films with Spring/Summer release dates next year. Despite them all being fairly anticipated films and starring some pretty big names, not one of them has been particularly raved about or cropped up in many news reports. You can find a whole host of new trailers on IMDB, so have a look on there if you wish to see them. I have though posted about one new film released next year that has had a rather cool trailer brought out so look below for that one, and I've also posted about a confirmed cast member for the sequel to Marc Webb's version of Spider-man.

Martin Sheen confirmed for The Amazing Spider-man 2

At the beginning of this week Martin Sheen officially announced his return to the new Spider-man franchise. In The Amazing Spider-man Sheen played Uncle Ben who, as you all know, is killed, causing Peter to become a superhero. Well if you haven't seen the new version it is still safe to know that you guys surely are aware that once again Uncle Ben is killed off in this origin story so that Peter can gather inspiration to fight crime. So with Sheen's character having already been killed off I presume we will be seeing him in some kind of flashback. Den Of Geek have Sheen quoting that he has been called back to the franchise and that the film begins shooting in February.

With this new version failing to really hit the sweet spot with me I am still struggling to really become enthused by this new version of the superhero character, despite some great cast members. Let's just hope that the other confirmed news of Jamie Foxx being cast to play Electro, can bring something fresh to proceedings.


First trailer for Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim

This week there have been new trailers released for Oblivion, After Earth, The Lone Ranger, and Man Of Steel, but the one that seems to be attracting the most hype is the trailer for Del Toro's new film which pits Charlie Hunnam as a soldier controlling giant robots to take down a monster that has risen from the sea. So what do you think? It is very different from what I expected of it, and it looks like a cross between Godzilla and Avatar. It does look rather cool and also boasts some strong British talent in Hunnam and Idris Elba. I think this has gathered more interest than other new trailer releases because of the status of Del Toro but I fail to see how this looks better than other movies coming out next year. It does look cool but it looks like it has the slight potential to be a bit of a CGI mess. Let's hope not though and instead add it to the ever growing list of anticipated films for next year. 2013 is going to be a fantastic year for movies. Pacific Rim hits UK theatres on 12th July 2013. 

NEWS - Star Trek Into Darkness teaser poster and teaser trailer.

Over the past week or so I have noticed that Star Trek Into Darkness has started to gather some momentum in the marketing department. Firstly we had a teaser poster for the film and only this morning we have been gifted with a teaser trailer. Now many probably won't be that excited about this film because they are not 'trekkies' but I say pull you head out ya ass and see the version directed by J.J Abrams. I am not a fan of Star Trek but the 2009 version was one of my favourite films of that year and has wetted my appetite for this sequel. Trust me, watch that version and prepare for this one. Did I mention if will be starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the villain? Does that change anyone's minds? It should.

The poster then shows Cumberbatch's villain standing within the wreckage of destruction. Not much can really be taken from it other than he is seriously going to go to town on their world. I have read some online issues with people suggesting the poster rips of The Dark Knight Rises poster, with the crumbling buildings displaying the symbol of the hero but I say nonsense. Yes it may have been inspired by the Batman but let's be honest here, haven't many films begun to take some influence from the Nolan's version of the Bat. I think if you look closely in most films you will see a Nolan-esque influence. Regardless though I still think this poster looks seriously cool.

Star Trek Into Darkness teaser trailer

The trailer shows heavy emphasis on Cumberbatch's villain. We don't see too much of him in hand to hand but his devious monologue playing out over the top shows he will exude power over the Star Fleet, especially since everyone else is left speechless and to small cameos in the trailer. This teaser shows the villain for all his destructive glory although as of yet we still don't know who he is! The trailer is very frantic but still looks as action packed as the 2009 version. I am very excited about this film and to me it looks ace. A longer trailer is to be released on 17th December.

Oh and on the Total Film page it talks once again about Nolan's influence as the music sounds very much like Inception. Christopher Nolan's films have changed this industry by the looks of it so of course people will take influence, and besides the music for Inception and the poster for The Dark Knight Rises were excellent so it doesn't surprise me why people are willing to take a hint of inspiration. Anyway I don't care just enjoy this trailer for what it is; a sneak preview to a really bad ass villain. Oh wait didn't Nolan do that in Batman?!

NEWS - Fox plans Susan Boyle biopic; New synopsis for Star Trek Into Darkness; Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen join X-Men Days Of Future Past

There has been plenty of film news over the past week, some of it absurd and some rather intriguing. I have brought you a few pieces I found either highly entertaining, intriguing or indifferent and thought it would be good to highlight them to you and see what you guys think. Be warned some of the following news could be shocking! It was for me anyway.

Fox plans Susan Boyle biopic

Did it make you shudder? It did me. This is a piece of news I really don't understand. The story of Susan Boyle?! Can this really go anywhere? Can it be exciting, enthralling, and entice people into the cinemas? I'm afraid I can't see how. The film will follow her life from her infancy in Scotland to International star. It will be crammed full of music mixing some songs from Les Miserables where the song she originally sung on Britain's Got Talent, I Dreamed A Dream comes from. So it is a musical about Susan Boyle!

Nothing else on the project has been announced so we look forward to hearing who has the dream of playing the leading lady herself. I can't help but think this will fall in the vein of the Paul Potts film (the other singer from BGT, not the Cambodian cleanser) which also seems like a dull film. At least that one will star James Corden. I've got it Ruth Jones for Susan Boyle anybody? Keep the Gavin And Stacey cast going? Anyway I hope you look forward to this film as much as I do.

New synopsis for Star Trek Into Darkness  

We finally have an outline for the next Star Trek film then. The only problem is it still doesn't highlight Benedict Cumberbatch's character and all we get from the synopsis is that he will be particularly bad ass. I loved the first Star Trek film back in 2009 and I advise people to see it whether you are a fan or not, as I hate Star Trek but still loved the film. The sequel is one I'm very excited about and even more so now that Sherlock Holmes will be in it as the big bad wolf. Have a look at the synopsis below:

"When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organisation has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

"With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.

"As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew."

What do you think? Sounds interesting if you ask me although would love to know the ins and outs of Cumberbatch's character. The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and Karl Urban, all who are returning from the first, and is due to be released in May 2013.

Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen join X-Men: Days Of Future Past

More news regarding the next X-Men project then. With Bryan Singer now on board to direct he has quickly added two major cast members from his version of the franchise. With the plot line involving time travel, and a mutant finding out the future and reporting it back to the younger X-Men who must prevent it, I'm presuming that the actors will play their usual characters only in the future threads of the film. This may reduce them to cameos but they should still be noticeable. 

I'm not too sure if this is a good one or not. With the amount of X-Men movies coming out it may become slightly confusing if they all start crossing over into each other's films. For the Avengers it worked as it was set up to do that whereas now I wander if it will take away some of this new versions credibility. I liked the idea of Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class being a completely different world to the previous films but now it seems like it will all be interconnected. I know Hugh Jackman had the smallest of cameos in First Class but it was nothing big enough to really get in the way. On other news with Jackman it has also been reported that he is joining this film so he will be playing Wolverine twice in one year in two completely separate films. All of this may become confusing and I wish they had kept these new versions as standalone to the older films. First Class was better than the others and showed the characters in a different way and now I'm slightly worried it will become a mess. We will have to wait till 2014 to find out however, and I hope I'm not right. 

NEWS - Jesse Eisenberg stars in first trailer for Now You See Me; Fox cancels Independence Day 3D re-release; The Rock fights drug dealers in the new trailer for Snitch

Lots of movie news has hit the web this week and it has been hard to choose which bits of information to bring to your attention. What I have gone for then are two trailers that I thought might suit your fancy and some news from Fox on the cancellation of a big re-release, this could be a good or a bad thing I'm not so sure.

Jesse Eisenberg stars in first trailer for Now You See Me

The first piece of news which was brought to my attention at the beginning of the week is the first look at the Jesse Eisenberg lead Now You See Me. Eisenberg leads an all star cast, including Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine, in a film revolving round a giant illusion. Jesse and his team rob banks whilst being live on stage and give the money out to the audience; only Mark Ruffalo's FBI agent is determined to get to the bottom of their trick. Prepare to be amazed I say. Take a look at the trailer below.

Now You See Me trailer

The trailer makes it look intriguing, the cast are all marketable, and the idea builds to a possible shock ending however I can't help but draw parallels to The Prestige. There is even the voice over by an all time acting legend, who describes the trick whilst we watch it. Despite the fact it looks good it will still have a lot to live up to and I can't wait to watch it and find out if it amazes me like The Prestige did.

Fox cancels Independence Day 3D re-release

This is the news that is debateable whether it is a good thing or bad. One it would be great to see on the big screen once again, but two it may run what was great about it by converting it to 3D. Not too much has been mentioned regarding the why it has been cancelled but it could be due to the other films Fox is releasing next year. I have read that potential clashes with White House Down starring Channing Tatum, and After Earth starring Will Smith have lead Fox to believe Independence Day may fail to be a success.

As well as having troubles re-releasing the original it is fair to suggest that maybe there are also problems with the development of the two sequels Roland Emerich has been lining up. If I'm honest I can't see where sequels to Independence Day can take us considering the first one basically blew America to bits. Anyway I'm sure if they are made I will be joining the line to go and watch them. Maybe Fox are shelving the 3D version in preparation for the sequels release??

The Rock fights drug dealers in new trailer for Snitch

Having just watched the trailer for this I'm a little bit in shock. It looks a lot better than I was first expecting. Now I don't mind Dwayne Johnson. Some of his films work and some don't. If I'm honest this looks like it will work. It does have a Jason Statham feel to it, and seems very much in the same action mould as one of Johnson's previous films Faster. This one though looks like it may have a little more heart. Take a look for yourself.

Does it look better than you though? As surprised as me? Could be an entertaining few hours. Anyway the films released on 21st February 2013 so it isn't really that long to wait.

NEWS - Mark Wahlberg confirmed for Transformers 4

The news I bring to you this week actually came about towards the end of last. The reason I highlight it then is that I am still slightly in shock about it, and nothing else this week has caught my eye quite as much as this. The reason I find it shocking is because how did Michael Bay manage to persuade Mark Wahlberg to star in a franchise that was killed by the previous two instalments? That's two of the only three so other than the first film it has never been on an even keel. LaBeouf was an unknown in the first film so it is understandable why he snapped up the chance to make his name but Wahlberg doesn't need to lower himself to this does he? His appearance in the film may make it better but I'm also still struggling to understand in what direction they will take these films now as the first three drained all the robot fighting enthusiasm out of most people. It has also been known that Wahlberg was simply rumoured online for the role in T4, which Michael Bay quickly quashed only to back track and cast him. By all accounts he reckoned the rumours got him thinking it would be a good idea and with them co-working on new film Pain And Gain he asked and Wahlberg agreed.

Wahlberg is set to play a father whose daughter and boyfriend get caught up in the robot's issues. As of yet no casting is confirmed of the other two but it is rumoured that they need to be available from April for shooting and for three movies. Does that mean Wahlberg has signed up for three? So more shocking news is that they are making another trilogy. I think it is about time Hollywood stopped milking the cash cows and something new is brought forward. As for Wahlberg I am slightly surprised at his willingness to participate in this but then again he is known for doing one great film and then a handful of bad. Perhaps I shouldn't judge as, as of yet I know nothing much about the film which could be epic, sadly though my hopes are not high. More to come of this in the next few months.

NEWS - Jamie Foxx to play Electron in The Amazing Spider-man 2; Harrison Ford open to Star Wars return

Two news releases over the past week caught my eye. The first one was spoke highly about towards the end of last week but thought it was a rather interesting choice and the second ties in with last week's news and also seems fairly obvious and generic.

When I saw this news I thought it was fairly intriguing. It doesn't seem like the sort of film Foxx usually gets involved in but if it is the case it could be some exciting news. Foxx's career has had its blips but he was fantastic in Collateral and I'm sure most of you are looking forward to seeing him in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. Foxx's involvement in the next Spider-man might make many more excited to see it as the first 'new' instalment was quite a letdown compared to the hype it was receiving, hopefully Foxx could be the spark that kicks that franchise off into a new direction. He is slated to play Electron who is a villain who can control the lightning after being struck by it. Many have speculated he was the man in the shadows of the post-credits sequence of The Amazing Spider-man, the character not Foxx himself. Anyway not much more has been released on the topic but you will know if it does.

Harrison Ford open to Star Wars return

I suppose it wasn't going to be long before the Star Wars rumours started. I find this release rather generic though as of course Ford was going to offer to return as why wouldn't he? As well as Ford, Mark Hammil and Carrie Fisher (who played Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia respectively) have also announced an interest. Could we be seeing them as mentors to a new crew? Or will this trilogy follow them as they continue their adventure in a home for the elderly in space? With Ford turning 70 it may be safe to say he won't be launching himself into space too much but after the disappointment of the previous trilogy maybe Hans Solo is the one character who can bring the third trilogy back to the brilliance of the first.

NEWS - Disney buys LucasFilm, prepping new Star Wars movies for 2015 and beyond

Here's some news for all those old school sci-fi Star Wars fans; it is returning. Disney has brought George Lucas' production company which has brought us the previous six Star Wars films and they have stated that another trilogy is on the way. Disney have reportedly paid in the region of 4 billion dollars for the production company but if this new trilogy is half as popular as the previous ones then I'm sure it will turn out to be a shrewd piece of business.

The first film in the trilogy, due for release in 2015, is in the early stages of development with no news on potential plot elements. However it has been rumoured that we will now meet Luke Skywalker in middle age?! Then again I have also seen online that they will be going a completely new route with it. The initial trilogy has become a classic and the newer one failed to live up to its predecessors, especially in the eyes of die hard Star Wars fans, so I wonder what this news means to those people. Can Disney take the far away galaxy back to the brilliance of the first trilogy? We will have to wait till 2015 to find out.

NEWS - Full Iron Man 3 trailer arrives online

For those of you who follow movie news online religiously I am sure you have already seen this insanely brilliant trailer, if you haven't click on the link below to witness the first step in the second phase of the Marvel Universe. This will be the first time we see one of these characters since The Avengers.

I have to say to start with that the trailer looks great. The music, the intrigue, and the small shot of each supporting character really suggest this could be back on track after the disappointing second instalment. This trailer is actually better than Iron Man 2.

Many questions are raised by this trailer which is exactly what we want. For starters is Stark suffering from the actions of The Avengers? Has he become paranoid and devised his own team of robots to protect Pepper only for them to turn bad? We also have glimpses of Guy Pearce who looks smarmy and with a hidden agenda, and Ben Kingsley's Mandarin who is seen with his infamous rings. There is a lot of action going on in this and much of it seems to be going against Tony Stark. He appears to be facing internal crisis as well as external and for a change he doesn't seem to be so selfish when it comes to Pepper. Anyhow I don't want to over analyse this, I'm sure another trailer will come out in the next few months and will change everyone's theories thus far so just enjoy the trailer for what it is, an insight to the next step of the Marvel universe.

NEWS - New teaser poster for Carrie remake; First image arrives from The Evil Dead remake

The news for this week comes from two horror remakes that are due to hit cinemas next year. It once again raises the question of whether remakes are needed and whether or not they ever live up to the original films. It does seem rather pointless releasing a film that has been done so well before but I suppose as long as people are buying the tickets they don't really care.

New teaser poster for Carrie remake

First piece of news is the teaser poster that has been released for the remake of Carrie.

Looks full of blood and gore and stands out as that is Chloe Grace Moretz who is lathered in it. You don't seem to get many A-list stars signing up for these type of remakes (some may have started their career there, Jessica Biel) so that should mean it was an attractive project for these stars. Could that mean this one may break from the norm of bad horror remakes? With Julianne Moore also starring perhaps it could be.

The poster tells us what we already know about Carrie. We will know her name by the end! The film is due for release 5th April 2013 in the UK. If you can't wait take a look at the picture below from the film or rent the original to gain an initial feel.

First image arrives from The Evil Dead remake

Another remake another image, although this one I'm sure will find it harder to please fans. The original Sam Raimi classic was such a genre defining piece that it may struggle to gain the same respect being brought out in today's world, especially after The Cabin In The Woods poked so much fun at the concept used in this film.

However let's not judge until we have seen. Mr Raimi, although not directing, has had a major influence on the production and he won't want to see a bad remake. Plus Bruce Campbell has said we will love it. We shall see.

The image gives us a sneaky look at a young 'dead' girl emerging from that hidden basement. Now what could she be doing down there?

    

The film is due for release on 12th April 2013 in the UK, so exactly a week after Carrie. Could mean a good couple of weeks at the cinema then, as long as they don't venture into the poor remake genre!!

NEWS - Armie Hammer rumoured for Batman in Justice League movie.

Over the past week there has been lots of film news that I could have broadcast to you. Nothing particularly popped up more than once or twice however meaning that the one piece of new that did pop up a couple of times was that Armie Hammer could be set to play the next Batman. What made me bring this to your attention then was that the Total Film Facebook page have also broadcast this news and invited comments of what people thought about this potential casting. The comments were not good. Many were simply stating no, others that he was too young, and most that no one will replace Christian Bale. Many still slate Bale as a Batman though which I think is wrong as I think he is brilliant as the caped crusader. I have no doubt that Hammer would also perform to top quality but is he right for the part? I'm not so sure but that could be because I don't think a new Batman needs to be made for at least ten years, and I don't want a studio to cash in on Avengers fame by bringing out the DC version of it.

Hammer's involvement is just a rumour at the moment but then again so is the Justice League movie. For those of you who don't know him Hammer played the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, J Edgar Hoover's lover in J. Edgar, and will be seen next year along side Johnny Depp in The Lone Ranger. His CV is building and he is getting some juicy roles however is he right for Batman? After the success of the Christopher Nolan version will anyone ever be again? More news on this over the next few months I'm sure.

Over the last couple of days The Lone Ranger starring Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp, directed by Gore Verbinski, has kicked into overdrive when it comes to promotional material. We have seen a whole host of images brought to our attention; I have given you a couple of them below but to check them all out then click this link:

As well as that we have been given a new poster and a trailer to peruse. It actually looks a lot better than first thought and we can now see where the heavy budget has been spent, not just on Depp's wages. You can watch the trailer and see the poster here:

See what you think, like I said I think it looks a lot better than I would have guessed, although it does look like another Johnny Depp/Jack Sparrow performance. Not much has been mentioned on the film until this week and it has all of a sudden been brought to our attention and the new material has come thundering down the tracks at full speed ahead.

The film will be based around Tonto (Depp) reciting some of his stories about his buddy the Lone Ranger (Hammer), so we basically have a buddy movie with two very good actors playing the leads. Hopefully it will shine as much as it's potential. The film is due to be released in the UK on 31st May 2013 so we still have a long way to wait so expect some more material over the next few months.

NEWS - Len Wiseman looking to direct The Mummy reboot.

Hot off the press of Total Recall, Len Wiseman has been given the opportunity to direct another reboot. The Mummy has been talked about for quite some time but nothing has ever really got the ball rolling on it till now. Many will argue, me included, that The Mummy doesn't need to be remade but then again neither did Total Recall. Perhaps Wiseman is fast becoming the guy to go to when it comes to rebooting, remaking, or redoing a film.

It can be argued that Total Recall is a remake as opposed to The Mummy which will be a reboot but I just hope Mr Wiseman doesn't make The Mummy a rehash like he has done with Total Recall. Sorry Len but it was a story that didn't need retelling. The Mummy is to be produced by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and they have stated that this will be a scarier, darker version of the villain we saw in the Brendan Frasier version; however it will still be family friendly. Uh-oh I smell another flop coming along. It is times like this when I wished studios would not do films again especially when there is no need. Perhaps Len Wiseman has a trick up his sleeve and perhaps he can show us something better but with Total Recall barely making audiences smile I fail to have much faith. Not much has been released on the potential release date but with a director becoming attached it won't be long before it all kicks in.

NEWS - First trailer for Lincoln; New Hobbit trailer online.

The main news for this week comes in the form of two theatrical trailers for two potentially epic films. One is too be released at the end of this year and the other at the beginning of next year so not a long wait between the two. Have a look at both trailers below.

What did you make of that then? As you can see the film stars Daniel Day Lewis as Abraham Lincoln during the pivotal years of his Presidential reign when he fought to abolish slave labour. Lewis looks like he has a nice interpretation of the legend but I can't help but think of that God awful Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter whenever I watch this trailer. Lincoln's famous speech is used in both of the films and when I heard it in this trailer I expected a vampire to attack him!! This could be ruined before it has even hit the screens.

It also stars Tommy Lee Jones and Sally Field, and if you look close enough you catch a glimpse of Joseph Gordon Levitt who plays Abe's son. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg so I'm sure it will be in for some awards but I can't help but view the trailer and fail to become excited for it. Hopefully nearer the time this will move up my 'to watch list'.

Now this trailer looks much more exciting I have to say. The film does look like it could be the beginning of the second nine hours of The Lord Of The Rings and lets just face it, it kind of is. All the same cast seem to be there only this time we exchange Frodo for Bilbo Baggins. Martin Freeman looks like he will be ace in this film. His stock has really risen since his brilliant portrayal of Dr John Watson in Sherlock.

The Hobbit is the first of these two to be released, coming to us on 14th December 2012. Expect packed cinemas that day. The film looks very epic and we should be prepared for a breath taking piece of cinema.

Two great directors (Spielberg and Jackson), two great casts, and two potentially great films to look forward to.
