There are 4 mainstream release films this weekend. Some top class actors will be on show and also a comedic adaptation of a classic fairy tale. Julia Roberts, Sean Penn and Bruce Willis can all be seen but will it be the Swedish film, soon to be remade in Hollywood, that draws you to the cinema?
1. The first main release of the week, which was released on Monday, is the first of two Snow White adaptation this year, MIRROR MIRROR. This version stars Julia Roberts as the evil Queen, Lily Collins as Snow White and Armie Hammer as the dashing Prince. This version is said to be a comedy adventure, where we see Miss White gather help from the Seven Dwarves in order to win back her birthright. Also starring: Nathan Lane. Fancy a fairy tale?
2. A film made in Sweden, hopefully following on from the success of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, is HEADHUNTERS, the story of an accomplished headhunter who risks everything in order to obtain a valuable painting. A Hollywood remake is already being talked about so this one could be huge. Starring: Aksel Hennie, Synnove Macody Lund, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau & Julie R. Olgaard. See the original before the remake?
3. Sean Penn up next starring as a retired rock star in THIS MUST BE THE PLACE. As a bored, retired rock star he sets out to find the man who killed his father. This is billed as a comedy but with his father's executioner being a former Nazi it doesn't sound very funny. I'm sure Mr Penn can pull it out the bag though. Also starring: Frances McDormand, Judd Hirsch & Eve Hewson. Sean Penn looking like Marilyn Manson?
4. Finally it is the Bruce Willis action flick THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY. Also starring Henry Cavill as his son, who has his family kidnapped by Sigourney Weaver due to his Father's involvement in the CIA. Could be another Die Hard type film on display. Also starring: Veronica Echegui. John McLane meets Superman?
So there are your choice of films for the weekend. A few that sound intriguing but it may be the film that isn't released in all cinemas that steals the show. If it is half as good as Dragon Tattoo than we could be in for a treat.
